For the Cynthion video game music competition, I composed two original pieces exploring the game’s forgotten lunar colony: an atmospheric exploration theme and a tension-driven battle cue. The exploration theme required careful restraint, creating an immersive science-fiction atmosphere without becoming too busy or distracting during gameplay. The battle theme was intentionally written with lower stakes than traditional action scoring, although in hindsight, I would have strengthened it with additional orchestral percussion. My work was selected as a third-place winner and recognized for its unusual textures, world-building, and connection to the game’s setting.
Original Compositions
First the Wind, Then the Frost is an original solo harp composition I wrote during music school for Á Piacare, a semesterly competition centered around learning directly from a professional instrumentalist. After the guest performer introduced us to the harp and its capabilities, composition students submitted original works written specifically for the instrument. Mine was selected as one of the pieces performed live by the visiting harpist—an unexpected and especially meaningful win for me.
